Got holiday stress? Try this

Why am I telling you this? Because I am stressed out about the holidays.

Yup. Me…Miss “I’m supposed to know how to manage stress” Jewell…

So if you’re like me and you need a very quick (I mean lightning-quick) life hack that will change your stress to joy, then you have to listen in to this week’s Juice.

This small little shift changed my life and you can use it right now.

Happy holidays. I hope you are enjoying your time with your family and friends. And I hope that 2020 is really your best year ever. I wanted to bring you a very, very simple tool that has really helped me reduce stress, especially around the holidays.

I don’t know if you’re like me, but I do find it a little stressful around the holidays. There are all these holiday events you’re going to, there are things you’re cooking, baking, shopping. There is a lot to coordinate and you’re working at the same time. It can feel overwhelming.

The other night, I was out to dinner with a very, very close friend of mine. She’s just started this business that has just taken off and she’s very busy with her business. She said, “I have to get these orders in, and I have to go to these holiday gatherings, and I have to get all of my baking done…”  Whenever I hear people talking about what they ‘have’ to do, I give them this very, very simple life hack that I learned from my dear friend Emiliya Zhivotovskaya from The Flourishing Center.

Here it is:

Instead of saying I have to do the baking or I have to go to a holiday event, say I ‘get to’ go, I get to go to a holiday event. A lot of companies are not even having holiday events anymore. It’s nice to get to go to an event. Some people don’t have the ability or money to bake. I get to bake cookies for my friend and exchange them with her. I get to see family members that I love to see.

It’s a simple hack, but it just shifts your mindset. That little shift to I get to is important.

Because remember, you actually don’t have to do anything.

My friend doesn’t have to run a successful business. She could sell it or let it go and do something else. My friend doesn’t have to bake cookies. She could’ve said, “ I’m not baking cookies this year.” She could have said, “I really don’t have to do any of these things.”

Remember, these are things that you choose to do in your life, and if you don’t want to do them, then don’t do them.

But if you are going to do them, do them mindfully. Do them with your whole heart, love them, and be present and enjoy – because life is short.

I hope that little life hack was a good one for you. I hope it’s a great little tip. I am wishing that you get to go and do a whole bunch of wonderful things this holiday season, and I’ll be thinking of you and I’ll see you again in the new year.

Happy holidays!
